GUWAHATI: In a road accident in the evening of Wednesday, April 9, a couple was killed on the spot after a dumper collided with their scooter in the Lalmati area of Guwahati.

Eyewitnesses stated that the couple died instantly following the impact. Enraged locals managed to apprehend the dumper driver at the scene and handed him over to the authorities.
Traffic personnel from Basistha Police Station arrived shortly after the incident and took the accused driver into custody. According to officials, the individual will be sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a mandatory medical examination.
Amid the chaos, locals refused to allow the authorities to tow the dumper away, causing a significant traffic disruption in the area. Police officials have since been working to ease congestion and pacify the agitated crowd.
"There was considerable anger among the locals, which made it difficult for us to bring the vehicle into custody. However, the driver has been detained," a traffic official from Basistha police station told GPlus. "We are not aware of any minor involved in the incident," the official added, responding to unverified claims that a child may have also been injured.
