GUWAHATI: The 2024 Cotton University Students' Union elections saw a strong showing by the MNDP Hostel, which secured most of the key positions, cementing its influence on the student body. Out of the 16 positions available, 13 were hotly contested, while 3 went uncontested. The elections were marked by intense competition, with some results coming down to the wire.

One of the most closely watched races was for the post of General Secretary, where Nirab Hazarika from MNDP Hostel won by a razor-thin margin of just one vote. Hazarika secured 1,045 votes, narrowly defeating Kuldip, who garnered 1,044 votes.
Key Positions Won by MNDP Alliance:
* President: Jubair Habib from the MNDP alliance, which includes SKL and DKR hostels, emerged victorious in the race for President, leading a strong coalition.
* Assistant General Secretary (AGS): Munmi Talukdar, also from the MNDP-SKL-DKR alliance, secured the AGS post, further strengthening the alliance’s hold on leadership positions.
* Cultural Secretary: Nilanjana Borah, representing the same alliance, won the Cultural Secretary post.
* Music Secretary: Ekta PT Hazarika from the MNDP alliance clinched the position of Music Secretary.
* Debate Secretary: Gitartha Borah took the Debate Secretary seat, adding another win for the MNDP-SKL-DKR coalition.
* Social Service Secretary: Nupur Kashyap was elected as Social Service Secretary, once again from the MNDP alliance.
* Minor Games Secretary: Perishka Rani Basumatary won the Minor Games Secretary post, rounding off the MNDP-SKL-DKR alliance’s success.
* Court Members: Lowali Binoy Bharali from the MNDP alliance was chosen as one of the court members, securing representation in this important position as well.
