GUWAHATI: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday, March 2 said that the Congress party will provide 200 units of free electricity per month if voted back to power in Assam. During her two-day visit to the northeastern state, the Congress leader spoke about various hot issues revolving around their political agendas ahead of the upcoming Assembly Elections in the state.
Priyanka slammed the ruling BJP-government for its failure to keep its promise and launched a state-wide protest against the growing unemployment under BJP rule. She also attacked BJP over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and floods in the northeastern state.
She said that Congress will not allow implementation of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act, which eases rules of citizenship for religious minorities from neighbouring Muslim-majority countries if it comes to power. The Congress representative also took a jibe at incumbent Chief Minister Sarabananda Sonowal and health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saying that Assam needs only one chief minister.
Priyanka’s visit to Assam ahead of the Assam Assembly Elections is seen an important event for the Congress party, which is eying on grabbing the maximum seats in the upcoming polls. Elections in Assam will be conducted in three phases starting March 27.
