Congress MLA Nurul Huda Accused Of Assaulting Assam Deputy Speaker

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam Legislative Assembly was rocked by controversy after Congress MLA Nurul Huda was accused of physically assaulting the Deputy Speaker, Numal Momin on Monday, March 24.

The incident has sparked outrage, with Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika strongly condemning the act in X, saying, “Congress MLA Nurul Huda physically assaulting the Hon'ble Deputy Speaker, ALA, Dr. @DrNumal is not only a condemnable act, it is also a direct insult to the Assembly and the Constitution. The Assam Legislative Assembly is a sacred place of democracy, where such unconstitutional behavior is completely unacceptable. Such actions go against the true values of Assam and Bharat. Shame!.”

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed during the question hour that he had received a WhatsApp message from Momin, informing him of the attack and his subsequent hospitalisation.

The ruling party has demanded strict action, pushing for a police investigation into the matter. However, opposition leader Debabrata Saikia countered the demand, arguing that a House Committee should be formed instead. 

The incident has triggered a political storm, with the ruling party and the opposition at odds over the next course of action.
