GUWAHATI: The Congress has pointed its gun at the state minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Ashok Singhal, after a 8-year-old boy was washed away by flood water in Jyotinagar area of Guwahati.

The search efforts are still ongoing as of July 6 for Avilash Sarkar, who was swept away by the waters of a roadside drain in the Jyotinagar locality in Guwahati.  The incident reportedly took place around 11 PM on July 4. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah talking to GPlus said, “After a girl died falling in a pit hole near Rajdhani Masjid in June last year it was decided by the government that all the pit holes and the drains will be covered,” asking why the drain at Jyotinagar was not covered.

Guwahati: Search Operation Still On For Minor Boy Swept Away In Flood

Borah said, “The minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal should immediately take moral responsibility and resign from his post,” adding that the Congress requests the chief minister to immediately ask his cabinet colleague to resign.

According to the boy’s mother, he was returning home on a two-wheeler with his father when the incident occurred. It was raining heavily at the time, and due to low visibility and slippery roads, the two-wheeler skidded, causing Avilash to fall into the drain. His father, who works in a garage, was coming back after closing the shop.
A resident of Jyotinagar told GPlus, "We heard that the father caught him by his t-shirt, but he slipped out and was swept away by the gushing water in the drain, which carried him along with a banana tree."
