Congress and Samajwadi party oppose Team India’s orange jersey against England

GUWAHATI: The Congress and Samajwadi party have opposed the orange jerseys, which team India will be wearing when they take on England in the ICC World Cup 2019 on June 30.

As per reports, Samajwadi party MLA Abu Asim Azmi criticized the decision and alleged that the BJP-led government was behind the decision.

Congress' Arif Naseem Khan was quoted by ANI as saying, “For the past five years, the Modi-led government is trying to saffronise each and every thing. Be it sports, cultural activities or anything for that matter.”

However, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that the jersey colour should not be politicised as the saffron colour is part of the India flag.

Earlier, an ICC source told ANI that colour options were given to BCCI and they chose the colour combination that looked the best to them. Source also said that the design (orange) is taken from India's old T20 jersey which had orange in it.

It should be mentioned that most teams, except Australia have been seen using another set of jerseys in the ICC World Cup.
