Con man arrested for duping women in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Chandmari Police arrested a con man on charges of duping women by promising to marry them later. The arrest was made on June 6, 2019.

The accused, Digbijoy Dey, used to approach unsuspecting women through social media website, Facebook, where he used a fake name, Ankurr Kashyap. 

A female friend, Ranjeeta Pegu, helped him execute his plans by posing as his sister. 

According to reports, Dey posed as the Assistant Manager of ICICI Bank, Paltan Bazaar with his first victim, from whom he stole Rs. 3.6 lakhs.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chandmari, Putul Chandra Baishya confirmed that the man had created a fake profile on Facebook to lure unsuspecting victims. 

He mentioned that after an initial introduction, Dey used to start a romantic relationship with his targets and Ranjeeta, his female accomplice, used to help him execute his plans. 

The accused has taken over Rs. 3 lakhs from one of the complainants and a laptop, cash amount of Rs. 20,000 from another woman, added Baishya. 

Two FIRs have been lodged against Dey by the two women.
