Combating Coronavirus: Over 2.82 Lakh People Screened in Assam

GUWAHATI: In order to control the spreading of the COVID-19, several Indian states have taken measures to combat it. 

Assam has no confirmed cases of the disease as of yet but the government has strengthened the surveillance and control measures against the disease. 

Till March 29, close to 2.82 lakh people were screened in different places in the state including airports, railway stations and others. 

Out of this, a total of 36,681 passengers were screened at airports across Assam and 1,49,155 individuals at different railway stations in Assam, according to a statement issued by Health and Family Welfare Department of Assam. Other than that, 97,145 people were screened at different places in Assam.

A total of 56,580 travellers from COVID-19 affected countries were identified and out of them, 1,018 passengers completed the observation period of 28 days while the remaining 55,562 are under home isolation. 

The statement also mentioned the number of samples tested so far. 408 samples have been tested and two were sent to NIV Pune for testing and the results were found negative, read the statement. 

154 samples were sent to RMRC Lahowal, Dibrugarh and all were found negative. 179 samples were sent to Virological Lab, GMCH Guwahati and all of them were found negative. 

Apart from these, 27 were sent to JMCH, Jorhat and 46 to SMCH, Silchar and these samples were also found negative.
