The crash, which occurred around 11:30 PM, has intensified concerns over the unchecked transportation of illicit coal in the region.
The vehicle is believed to have reportedly originated from an unauthorised coal coke unit in Ledo, a subdivision of Margherita. Travelling at high speed, the truck reportedly lost control, skidded off the highway, and crashed into a roadside tree.
The collision reportedly caused additional damage when debris from the truck struck a private vehicle parked at a nearby garage. No immediate reports of casualties have been confirmed, but the accident has highlighted the risks posed by illegal coal transport in the area.
