GUWAHATI: A young woman from Bamunimaidan in Guwahati has alleged that she has been cheated of several lakhs of rupees by a man who misrepresented his religious identity to establish a romantic relationship with her.

According to her, she fell victim to what she describes as "love jihad." Initially, the man introduced himself as a Hindu. However, as their relationship progressed, she claims to have discovered his true identity. She further revealed that they were intimate, and she underwent multiple miscarriages during their time together.

Upon investigation, talking to GPlus, an official from Chandmari police station said, "The accused has been identified as Hamidul Islam. He deceived the young woman and managed to defraud her of a substantial sum amounting to 12 lakhs rupees over the course of their three-year relationship."
Further investigation is under way.
