CISF apologises for allegedly ‘strip-searching’ pregnant woman at Guwahati Airport

Guwahati: With public anger brewing over various social media channels about the alleged strip-searching of pregnant woman at Guhawati airport by a CISF lady sub-inspector (SI), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has issued a letter, wherein they have reviewed the matter and agreed that a thorough pat-down search in the frisking booth would have been sufficient.

Taking cognizance of the twitter message posted by the husband of the victim the department issued a statement saying that they were sorry for the inconvenience caused to the said couple.

It clarified that the said lady SI was recently appointed and had limited experience of handling such delicate matters. She has been sent for intensive training to gain further experience to handle such situations.

The CISF letter throws light on exactly what had transpired that day. The victim had requested that metal detector should not be used for checking as she was pregnant. On this, the lady sub-inspector, who was in-charge of screening asked for a medical proof to verify the claim. The victim could not produce the document, as it was in the check-in baggage.

The lady SI, who was appointed two months back, with her limited experience, then decided to go for a personal search to confirm the claim. This led to an altercation and later the couple complained about it to the authorities and posted about it in the social media.
