GUWAHATI: A late-night crackdown by Dispur Police in the Ganeshguri area of Guwahati escalated into chaos after a group of individuals from the transgender (Kinnar) community reportedly disrupted the operation on the late hours of Tuesday, April 8.
The police action was initiated following multiple complaints from residents alleging that some members of the Kinnar community were allegedly involved in inappropriate activities during nighttime hours. Responding to these concerns, police launched an operation in the locality.
However, the situation quickly spiraled when around 10 to 15 individuals allegedly confronted the police and created disorder on the streets.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from Dispur said, “The transgenders actually protested against our action on their alleged illegal activities at night. There was no commotion as such.”
Authorities have indicated that further steps will be taken to maintain order and address the ongoing complaints.
