GUWAHATI: The Central government launched the Bharatpol portal on Tuesday, January 7, for the simplification and expedition of international cooperation in criminal investigations for Indian law enforcement agencies (LEAs). The portal was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Speaking at the launch, Shah stated, “Bharatpol will usher in a new era of international investigations for India. Previously, only the CBI liaised with Interpol. With Bharatpol, all Indian LEAs and state police forces will now have direct access to Interpol, bridging gaps and enhancing efficiency in combating crime.”
The portal has been developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and it particularly aims to facilitate real-time sharing of information among central, state, and union territory LEAs, thereby reducing delays in consistent communication. The platform replaces old models such as letters, emails, and faxes, ensuring seamless coordination between CBI, Interpol Liaison Officers (ILOs), and Unit Officers (UOs).
Key features of the portal include real-time information sharing, a unified platform for criminal investigations, and faster response time to bolster India’s global investigations. It is particularly suited to addressing transnational crimes such as cybercrime, human trafficking, financial fraud, and organised crime. It also equips field-level officers with tools for better access to international support and intelligence.
The launch was held alongside the CBI investiture ceremony, where Shah presented police medals to 35 CBI officers, highlighting their contributions to India’s internal security.
