Centre Declares 7-Day National Mourning To Honour Manmohan Singh

 

GUWAHATI: The Union government has declared a seven-day period of national mourning to honour Singh’s legacy from December 26 to January 1. During this time, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across the country, and no official entertainment will be held. Indian missions and High Commissions abroad have also been directed to observe the half-mast protocol.

 Former Prime Minister and one of India’s economists, Dr Manmohan Singh, passed away on Thursday, December 26 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

Leaders from across the country have expressed their condolences, recognising Singh as a respected economist and national leader whose contributions to the country will be remembered as a great loss to India. 

Manmohan Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister for two consecutive terms, was widely recognised for his crucial role in shaping the nation’s economic policies and fostering inclusive growth.
