It’s Official: IRS Officer M Anusuya, Female, Is Now M Anukathir Surya, Male

 

GUWAHATI: In a first, the name and gender change request of an IRS officer in Hyderabad was accepted by the Government of India on July 9.

The officer, currently posted as the Joint Commissioner of in the office of Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal, Hyderabad, had earlier requested the Government to change his gender from female to male and his name from M Anusuya to M Anukathir Surya.

As per an order by the Union Ministry of Finance, his request has been approved and his particulars have been accordingly changed in all official records.

"Ms. M. Anusuya, IRS, presently posted as Joint Commissioner in O/o Chief Commissioner, CESTAT, Hyderabad has requested for change of her name from Ms. M. Anusuya to Mr. M.Anukathir Surya and Gender from Female to Male. The request of Ms. M. Anusuya has been considered. Henceforth, the officer will be recognised as "Mr. M.Anukathir Surya" in all official records," stated the order signed by the Under Secretary to the Government of India.
