Centre Approves Construction Of 13 Major Dams In Arunachal Pradesh To Generate 12,723 MW

 

GUWAHATI: The Union Cabinet has given the green light for the construction of 13 major dams in Arunachal Pradesh, aimed at generating a total of 12,723 MW of electricity.

These dams will be built on several important rivers and their tributaries, including the Siang, Subansiri, and Jia Bharali, many of which flow into Assam. Among the approved projects, two significant dams will be constructed on the Subansiri River and its tributary, the Kamala River. The Subansiri Upper Dam is expected to produce 2,000 MW of power, while the Subansiri Middle Dam is designed to generate 1,800 MW.

Reports also indicate that a large dam will be built in the upper region of the Gerukamukh hydropower project. Additionally, a mega-dam is planned for the Lohit River in the Anjaw district, with the Kalai-II dam targeting a 1,200 MW capacity.

Ten more major dams will be constructed along the Siang River in Arunachal Pradesh, with five located in Shi Yomi district and the other five in Dibang Valley district. Notable projects include the Neing Dam, expected to generate 1,000 MW, and the Etalin Dam, which is projected to produce 3,097 MW.
