This was announced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday, January 3, during a virtual interaction with media persons from the Northeast.

Vaishnaw stated that this allocation is over five times higher than the average annual allocation of ₹2,122 crore during 2009-2014. The funding will support various projects, including new railway lines, track renewals, bridge construction, road safety works, signaling upgrades, and enhanced passenger amenities.

The minister also noted that Indian Railways will continue to prioritise faster, safer, and more comfortable travel nationwide, with an overall budget allocation exceeding ₹2.65 lakh crore for the second consecutive year. Plans include introducing 200 new Vande Bharat trains, 100 Amrit Bharat trains, and 50 Namo Bharat rapid rails, catering especially to the needs of the middle and lower-income groups.

Additionally, 1,000 new flyovers and underpasses will be constructed to improve safety.
