Center Urges Twitter And Other Social Media Platforms To Remove Viral Video Of Manipur Women

 

GUWAHATI: In a deeply disturbing incident that has rattled the entire nation, video footage emerged recently showing two women being paraded naked by a mob and subsequently subjected to gang-rape in the strife-torn region of Manipur.

The incident, which occurred on May 4, during the ongoing Kuki-Meitei conflict, has sparked nationwide outrage and calls for severe punishment for the perpetrators on various social media platforms.

The Indian Government responded to the situation, and the Centre has reportedly requested Twitter and other social media sites to remove the graphic video while the investigation is underway.

As per reports, Union Minister Smriti Irani expressed her dismay after viewing the horrifying video and subsequently had a conversation with Chief Minister N Biren Singh regarding the matter.

Prominent political figures, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, Sachin Pilot, Aaditya Thackeray, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Mahua Moitra, and Saket Gokhale, from various parties, have strongly condemned the violence and demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning the situation in Manipur since May 3.

The video captures the harrowing ordeal of two Kuki women who were stripped naked and forced to walk while facing threats of death if they did not comply.

The footage, which surfaced more than two and a half months after the incident, has amplified public outrage.

Meanwhile, one of the main suspects involved in the heinous act has been apprehended in connection with the viral video.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced the arrest through a tweet, assuring the public that his government will ensure stringent action against all the culprits involved, with the possibility of even capital punishment being considered.
