Cell Phone Snatching On The Rise In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Incidents of cell phone snatching are on the rise in Guwahati city. Reports of mobile phones being snatched by bike-borne riders have been recorded from various parts of the city. 

Meanwhile, the Paltan Bazaar Police has started an operation against such snatchers or thieves from February 8.

Dignata Phukan, Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Bazaar Police Station (PS) informed G Plus that on February 8 and 9, the Police apprehended four mobile phone snatchers and recovered 20 phones from them, along with Rs 31,200 cash. 

The alleged snatchers have been booked under Section 382 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

In an incident on February 8, a person's mobile was snatched on the AK Azad Road in Guwahati. The victim narrated, “I was on a trekker van, talking on my phone when two boys came on a bike and snatched the mobile and fled. The van was moving. The incident happened just opposite to Dr Kalicharan Das Nursing Home at about 7 PM”.
