The victim was travelling on his two-wheeler when the wandering rhino, which had abandoned the sanctuary, charged at him. In a viral video of the incident, the victim is seen abandoning his bike and running into an open field as the rhino, capable of reaching speeds of 55 kilometres per hour, chased him down.

Despite the shouts of locals attempting to scare the animal away, the rhino ultimately caught up with the victim. His body was later discovered in the field, with severe injuries to his head.

"The rhino came out of the wildlife sanctuary. We are investigating the incident," reports quoted a forest official saying.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located about 30 kilometres from Guwahati, is renowned for having the highest density of one-horned rhinos in India. The incident has raised concerns over human-wildlife conflict in the area, as rhinos occasionally stray beyond sanctuary boundaries.
