When the student informed his parents, they approached the principal of the school, who as per the complaint, instead of giving importance to the matter asked the parents to pay the entire years fees before withdrawing his enrollment from the school.

The victim, who hails from Boko area in Assam, joined the hostel on June 9th, 2019. He is a student of HS first year in the Commerce stream.

Speaking to G Plus, the Officer in charge of Azara police station Ashok Dutta said, "We are currently investigating the matter and strict action will be taken if the allegations are proved to be correct."

As per the provisions of Assam Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998, ragging can lead to punishment of up to six months imprisonment or fine which may extend to Rs 10,000 or both. The Indian Penal Code (IPC) also has provisions to prevent ragging.
