GUWAHATI: In a travel advisory issued by the Government of Canada, travellers have been urged to exercise a high degree of caution, with specific regional advisories in place for parts of Northeastern India including Assam and Manipur. Furthermore, non-essential travel to certain states within the region is discouraged due to security concerns related to terrorism and insurgency.

Travellers have been strongly advised to avoid non-essential travel to the states of Assam and Manipur. These regions have been identified as areas with a heightened risk of terrorism and insurgency activities.

The travel advisory states that several extremist and insurgent groups are actively operating in Assam and Manipur. These groups have a track record of targeting local government institutions and security forces.

The advisory also categorically advises against all travel to Jammu and Kashmir, citing an unstable security environment characterised by terrorism, militancy, civil unrest, and the looming threat of kidnapping. The travel advisory paints a grim picture of the security climate in Jammu and Kashmir, deeming it highly unpredictable.
