GUWAHATI: The level of water in the Brahmaputra River continues to rise due to heavy and incessant rains even as floods wreak havoc across 23 districts in Assam.
At Guwahati, the Brahmaputra River has been flowing above the danger level and as per the Central Water Commission, the water level is predicted to further rise by 25 cm by early morning on June 30.
"Water level of the Brahmaputra in Guwahati is now at 49.84 cm and has crossed the danger mark; 49.68 cms is the actual danger level which has been crossed," said an official of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), talking to G Plus.
According to the Central Water Commission, water levels in parts of Chakreshwar Temple and surrounding areas could reach 90 cms or higher above ground level.
So far, more than 9 lakh people have been affected by floods over the past 5 days in the state and the death toll this season has risen to 21.

Earlier, an official from GMC, while talking to G Plus, had expressed preparedness of various local bodies to combat problems of water logging and flash floods under the 'Mission Flood Free Guwahati'.
GMC, GMDA, PWD, DDMA, DC of Kamrup Metro and other local bodies have already begun De-siltation, set up De-watering Pumps and created diversions for storm waters alongside taking other measures to ensure that citizens do not face problems this monsoon.
Citizens have however, still complained of water logging in certain areas across the city although the time of inundation has significantly reduced.
