In a media briefing on Friday, September 27, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma highlighted the importance of continued dialogue, noting that regular meetings have been held with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “We have been having regular official meetings. I have also had personal discussions with Himanta Biswa Sarma ji. We will continue the dialogue and meet in October,” he said.

The upcoming talks will address six sensitive areas: Langpih, Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Deshdoomreah, Block-I & II, and Khanduli-Psiar. These regions have been long-standing points of contention for both states and resolving them is expected to be the central focus of the discussion.

In the first phase of negotiations, six out of twelve disputed areas have been successfully addressed. Committees from both states have already conducted inspections of the remaining regions, setting the stage for informed and detailed discussions during the October talks.

Both governments have reaffirmed their commitment to handling the discussions with caution, given the complexity and sensitive nature of the disputes.
