In comparison to the same period last year, when 394,076 such cases were reported, NFR has seen a 0.51% increase in ticketless travel incidents this year. Earnings from these fines also rose by 0.82%, up from ₹33.78 crore last year.

To combat persistent fare evasion, NFR conducted three surprise ticket-checking drives. These operations involved railway magistrates, resulting in fines for 161 individuals under the Railway Act, with 167 others being prosecuted. The surprise checks alone yielded ₹10.58 crore in fines.

The NFR has also reminded the public that travelling without a valid ticket or beyond the permitted distance could lead to additional fines and legal action under The Railways Act, of 1989. Therefore, passengers are urged to carry valid tickets and identification cards to avoid penalties.
