GUWAHATI: Mukti Ranjan Rai, the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi in Bengaluru, was found dead in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Wednesday, September 25.

Bengaluru Police confirmed that Rai's body was discovered hanging from a tree, along with a suicide note confessing to the brutal killing and dismemberment of Mahalakshmi, according to reports.
The shocking murder came to light on September 21, when Mahalakshmi’s dismembered body, cut into 59 pieces, was found inside a refrigerator in her Vyalikaval apartment in Bengaluru. This discovery horrified residents and sparked an intense police search for Rai, who had been on the run for two days.
The police found Rai’s body along with a bag, a scooter, and a notebook containing the suicide note. In the note, Rai admitted to murdering Mahalakshmi, with whom he was reportedly acquainted, and dismembering her body.
Mahalakshmi, married but living separately, had been residing alone in a one-bedroom apartment at the time of her death.
