GUWAHATI: Inspite of the state government’s order to shut down all educational institutions in Assam, the Board examinations in schools as well as university examinations will take place as per the previous schedule, said state health and family welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, March 16.

Sarma was addressing a press meet at Janata Bhawan on Assam's prevention against coronavirus, and stated, “Apart from the Board exams, we are avoiding other examinations. However, in some places, students have said about a few exams that it is an important exam and we want to appear for it and finish it, so we are allowing that.”

He further mentioned, “In our order, we have allowed educational institutes to hold Board exams and university examinations.”

It is to be mentioned that the government of Assam had on March 15 declared all schools, colleges and universities closed till 29th March as a measure to combat coronavirus.
“We have decided to provide students with rice so that at least they can cook it at home,” he said.

Sarma said that the education department has also issued a directive that government teachers will pan out to different villages in the state to create awareness regarding personal hygiene.
