GUWAHATI: An opinion poll conducted by a national news channel on ensuing Assam elections has given the ruling BJP an upper hand. However, it predicted that the saffron camp will fail to reach its much publicised Mission of 100 plus.

An opinion poll carried out by news channel ABP to gauge the mood of voters of Assam forecast that BJP will win somewhere between 73-81 seats winning more than 42% votes which is much below its target of 100 plus.

In the 126 member assembly, principal opposition party Congress is likely to get seats between 36-44 cornering a 35% vote share.

The ABP-C voter opinion poll predicted that Perfume Baron Badruddin Ajmal led AIUDF will win only 4  to 5 seats, while others are expected to win 20 seats.

The survey pointed out that a significant percentage of core voters have moved away from AIUDF and is likely to benefit parties like Congress and regional parties. The survey also said that BJP has managed to neutralise the impact of issues like NRC and CAA on the polls. However, the poll pointed out that Congress had gained some sympathy after the demise of Tarun Gogoi but polarisation of state politics will wash away that gain.
