According to sources, following the announcement, the new chief minister and council of ministers are set to take the oath at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday evening, February 20.
The decision is likely to be finalised at a meeting of the BJP legislature party, where the elected MLAs will select the next chief minister. Reports suggest that the cabinet will include a mix of experienced and young leaders, with representation from key caste and community groups in the capital.
Names reportedly under consideration for the chief minister’s post include BJP MLAs Parvesh Sahib Singh, Vijender Gupta, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Satish Upadhyay, and Shikha Roy. The party is also expected to choose a chief minister from among its elected MLAs rather than an MP.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and caretaker Chief Minister Atishi criticised the BJP for the delay in naming the new chief minister. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Atishi reportedly alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not trust any of the 48 newly elected BJP MLAs.
AAP’s Delhi convenor Gopal Rai also questioned the delay, stating that the BJP could see multiple chief ministers over the next five years, similar to its last tenure in Delhi. “The reality is that history could repeat itself, and we may see three chief ministers in the next five years,” he reportedly said.
