Former Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi slammed the BJP Government at a press meet held at Guwahati saying, “What’s the purpose of hosting Gunotsav if the education minister of the State doesn’t have the least knowledge about the History of Assam?”

Gogoi termed the whole process of Gunotsav confusing and also expressed dissatisfaction over NRC saying, “Things are not happening the way they should have. I hope that the final draft of NRC carries the names of valid residents of the state and doesn’t miss out authentic information.”

He also questioned the exclusion of the names of various MLAs, MPs and Journalists of the state from the part draft saying, “It’s unfortunate that 90% names are yet to be verified. It was necessary for the NRC officials to carry out proper verification in Muslim and Hindu-Bengali dominated areas, which never happened. The first draft has names like Paresh Baruah and my daughter, who resides in America, but the draft has missed out on names of MPs like Badruddin Ajmal. How can you take such a list to be valid?”

He also questioned the government’s decision of organising the NRC press meet at midnight saying, “The government has created major confusion amongst people by organising the NRC press meet at 12AM, whereas it could have been conducted at 5PM also.”

A lot of confusion continues to prevail regarding each step of the NRC process.
