Barpeta MP Abdul Khaleque Resigns From Congress

 

GUWAHATI: Abdul Khaleque, Member of Parliament representing the Barpeta Lok Sabha Constituency, has tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress party. 

In a statement released today, Khaleque expressed his initial attraction to its ideologies during his media career.

Khaleque acknowledged the Congress party's rich history and heritage, marked by a legacy of struggle and dignity, which he deeply respects and cherishes. Throughout his tenure, Khaleque served the organisation in various capacities, both within Assam and in other states. 

However, Khaleque voiced concerns about the party's recent direction in Assam, where he believes people-centric issues have been sidelined. He criticised the attitude and approach of the party's state president and AICC General Secretary in-charge, expressing disappointment in the party's prospects in Assam.

In light of these developments, Khaleque announced his decision to resign from the Indian National Congress, emphasising his commitment to safeguarding democracy and maintaining a sense of independence, self-respect, and unity among the people. He extended his gratitude to Sonia Gandhi for her leadership and unwavering support.
