ASTEC, RSC Set To Celebrate National Science Day In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC), in association with Regional Science Centre (RSC), Guwahati, is set to celebrate National Science Day on Tuesday in Guwahati.

Every year February 28 is celebrated as National Science Day to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian physicist Sir CV Raman on February 28, 1928.

Sir CV Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for this discovery.

Interacting with G Plus, ASTEC director Dr Jaideep Baruah said, "Like every year, we will celebrate National Science Day on February 28 across the state. The central celebrations will be held here at the Regional Science Centre."

"Utpal Sarma, the head of the Department of Instrumentation & USIC, Gauhati University, will be the event's keynote speaker. The coordinators of RSC and 70 science and mathematics facilitators of the state will attend the event. Facilitators will be oriented on the changing dimensions of science and technology," Baruah added.

Speaking about the NSD 2023 theme, Baruah said, "The theme for this year is Global Science for Global Wellbeing. Aryabhatta Vigyan Kendras would organise various competitions based on this theme at the district levels."

In 1986, the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) proposed celebrating February 28 as National Science Day.
