The advisory to female doctors and other staffers asked them to ‘avoid going alone' to ‘isolated places’ at night.

The withdrawal took place after facing massive backlash and protests by students, who called for enhanced security measures in the hospital after the advisory was issued.

The original notice issued by SMCH on August 12, was in response to a tragic incident of rape and murder of a female student at R.G. Medical College, Kolkata. It faced criticism for implying that female doctors were responsible for their own safety.

The Office of the Principal cum Chief Superintendent of SMCH issued a new notice, canceling the previous one in response to the National Medical Commission's (NMC) recent directive on Tuesday, August 13.

Following the NMC's recent directives, new guidelines are expected to be issued soon that will adhere to NMC norms and government directives.
