GUWAHATI: The Sahitya Akademi announced Sahitya Akademi Awards for 2024 on Wednesday, December 18, recognising exceptional literary works across multiple genres. This year’s awards cover eight collections of poetry, three novels, two short story collections, three essays, three literary criticisms, one play, and one research book.

Among the distinguished recipients is Assamese poet Sameer Tanti, whose collection 'Pharinbore Bator Katha Jane' has been honoured for its outstanding literary merit.
Besides, poet Deepak Kumar Sharma was selected for his work 'Bhaskaracaritam' (Sanskrit) and Aron Raja for his novel 'Swrni Thakhai (Bodo).
The awards were recommended by respective Jury Committees for 21 Indian languages and received approval from the Sahitya Akademi’s Executive Board during a meeting chaired by Madhav Kaushik, Chairman of the Akademi.
The awards, selected by a three-member jury for each language, celebrate literary excellence in works published between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2022. The winners will receive an engraved copper plaque, a shawl, and a prize of ₹1 lakh at a grand ceremony on March 8, 2025, at the Kamani Auditorium, Copernicus Marg.
