“This marks yet another promise made to the people that will be fulfilled well before the elections,” Sarma posted on X.
The announcement has arrived following a meeting held one day earlier with Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
The Jorhat–Dibrugarh highway stretch is considered a critical component of upper Assam’s connectivity and infrastructure upgrade.
During the meeting, Sarma and Kumar also reviewed other infrastructure projects across Assam. One of them included the proposed 19.28-kilometre four-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra River connecting Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari in Meghalaya.
Once complete, it will become the longest bridge in the country.
