GUWAHATI: Assamese actor, film critic, and politician, Dilip Kumar Hazarika, breathed his last on Thursday, as per reports.
He had been grappling with age-related ailments for an extended period and finally passed away yesterday at 8:31 PM. Dilip Kumar Hazarika, a resident of the Uzan Bazar locality in Guwahati, was 89 years old at the time of his demise. He is fondly remembered for his impeccable portrayal of Piyoli Barua in the film 'Maniram Dewan.'
The actor-turned-politician is survived by his two children. He was closely associated with the historic Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir in Guwahati's Uzan Bazar, where he dedicated six decades of his life from the 1950s to the 2010s. During his prime, Dilip Kumar Hazarika frequently graced performances alongside the legendary Bhupen Hazarika. He was also known for captivating readers with his literary works, including 'Afuranta Kothabur,' 'Xumai Porisu Xomoyor Xurongot,' 'Kotnu Dekhilu Kotnu Xunilu,' and many others.
Following his passing, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to put out, "I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of the renowned actor, writer, and advocate Dilip Kumar Hazarika. The loss of this versatile personality, celebrated for his exceptional performances in various Assamese films, including 'Maniram Dewan,' is a significant blow to Assam's socio-cultural realm. I wish Mr Hazarika eternal peace and offer my heartfelt condolences to his grieving family."
