Assam Women Journalists' Forum To Hold Training On Reporting Climate Change & Gender

GUWAHATI: Assam Women Journalists' Forum (AWJF) is all set to collaborate with the Department of Communication and Journalism at Gauhati University to organise a specialised training session on "Reporting Climate Change and Gender." The event is scheduled for Friday, September 19.

Climate change has wreaked havoc across India in recent years, with the northeastern region, particularly Assam, being highly vulnerable. The region faces frequent floods and earthquakes, affecting people's lives and livelihoods.

The upcoming session aims to equip journalists with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively report on the intersection of climate change and gender. The training will cover key aspects of these issues and provide guidelines on the dos and don’ts of responsible reporting.

Leading the session are award-winning journalists who have extensive experience covering the Northeast's biodiversity, environment, climate change, and gender issues. Among the speakers are Durba Ghosh, Bureau Chief of PTI, Samim Sultana Ahmed, News Editor of Dainik Agradoot, and independent journalists Mubina Akhtar, Ratna Bharali Talukdar, Chandrani Singha, and Angana Chakrabarti.

The AWJF is a network of women media professionals in Assam, focused on fostering professional growth and mentoring new journalists. One of the Forum's goals is to collaborate with Mass Communication departments and institutions to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the practical demands of the journalism industry, especially in skill development.
