GUWAHATI: In a display of utter chaos, a herd of wild elephants unleashed havoc upon Gupta Kashi in Biswanath Ghat, Assam.
Over the past two days, these untamed giants sought refuge near a nearby river. However, in the early hours of Sunday morning, the herd of wild tuskers breached the boundaries, storming both the new and old villages, as per media reports.
The locals, terrorised by their presence, were left helpless as the elephants mercilessly trampled and ravaged the crops in the area.
Swiftly responding to the crisis, the Forest Department arrived at the scene, aiming to drive away the rampaging elephants and restore calm to the village.
The Forest officials are employing various strategies to chase away the mighty creatures and mitigate further damage. Efforts are underway to guide the elephants back into their natural habitat, away from human settlements, as per media reports.
Many villagers have suffered significant losses, with their crops demolished and their livelihoods jeopardised.
Local authorities are taking stock of the situation and coordinating relief measures to assist those affected.
