GUWAHATI: Assam University, Silchar, and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare Assam have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 3 to grant graduation degrees to eligible ex-servicemen.

The MoU, signed by Pradosh Kiran Nath, the Registrar of Assam University, and Brigadier Dinesh Chandra Mazumdar (Retd), the Director of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, was witnessed by esteemed dignitaries, including Chancellor Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha and Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, the Vice Chancellor of Assam University.

The primary objective of this collaboration is to empower ex-servicemen who have dedicated a significant part of their youth to military service, often missing out on opportunities for civilian education. The awarding of UGC-recognised graduation degrees to ex-servicemen aims to harness and showcase their skills and capabilities for potential re-employment.

The MoU between Assam University, Silchar, and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, represents a crucial welfare measure for ex-servicemen, facilitating their rehabilitation and integration into civilian life. Furthermore, it will render ex-servicemen eligible for various job opportunities, leveraging the 2 per cent reservation quota sanctioned by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
