GUWAHATI:Two nurses in Assam's Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital have been suspended for wrongly registering a new-born's gender. According to media reports the parents of the new-born made a hue and cry claiming that their baby boy got exchanged for a girl and later after inquiry it was found that there was negligence on the part of the hospital.

The two nurses Juli Borua and Ruby Hazarika have been suspended by the hospital administration.

The mother Saynika Das had actually given birth to a girl child but the nurses had registered the new born as a boy. In all the hospital documents, the gender was registered as a boy. This gross negligence has resulted in the suspension of the nurses.

"After the delivery, one nurse said that it was a male and the other cleaned the baby and handed it over to the mother. In the Delivery Note there is a column to check any deformity and they did not check it and it resulted to this negligence. The administration has decided to suspend them and a show cause notice will be given to others who were also responsible," said an LMCH official to a local media.
