Assam To Start 4-Year Undergraduate Courses From 2023

 

GUWAHATI: Four-year undergraduate courses will be started in colleges across Assam from next year. This was announced by State Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday, September 11, while attending the closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee year of Sonari College in Charaideo district.

"Four-year undergraduate courses will be started in colleges of the state from next year. The Government has been taking various steps for earning knowledge through the education system. The State Government will provide full cooperation in various aspects including upgrading infrastructure, recruitment of faculty members to facilitate the introduction of post-graduate courses at Sonari College so that the college becomes a full-fledged post-graduate college," CM Sarma said during his speech. 

G Plus spoke to an Associate Professor in SB Deorah College, who explained that the introduction of the 4-year undergraduate courses is the norm as per the National Education Policy (NEP). 

“The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a draft curriculum framework for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes (FYUGP). Universities and colleges will now offer 4-year undergraduate degrees with multiple exit and entry options. This programme was supposed to be implemented in all higher education institutions from the academic session 2022-23,” the professor added. 

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted saying, “Glad that all universities in Assam are preparing to adopt new #NationalEducationPolicy from next year. Colleges will also roll out 4-year undergraduate courses from 2023 onwards”.
