Assam To Get First ESIC Medical College In Guwahati's Beltola

GUWAHATI: The Central government has approved the establishment of the first Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) medical college in Beltola, Guwahati. This announcement was made by Union Minister of Labour and Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya during the 194th meeting of the ESI Corporation in New Delhi on October 8.

In a press release, the minister highlighted that the ESI Corporation has, in principle, sanctioned the creation of 10 new medical colleges across various states, including Assam, Maharashtra, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. 

The announcement comes as part of several strategic decisions aimed at enhancing ESIC’s infrastructure and medical facilities. The corporation has also approved proposals for acquiring land to construct an ESI Dispensary and Branch Office in Dhubri, alongside other critical projects designed to improve healthcare services for insured workers.

Additionally, the ESI Corporation has extended the "Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna" scheme for an additional two years, effective from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026. This scheme aims to provide unemployment allowances to insured individuals while they seek new employment opportunities.
