GUWAHATI: Israel’s Ambassador to India, Dr. Ron Malka, visited Guwahati before laying the foundation stone of the Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Protected Cultivation.
He met with Assam Chief Minister (CM) Sarbananda Sonowal for a fruitful discussion and tie-up for cooperation in the field of agriculture.
"Today is a historic day for Assam, as we tie up with Israel for cooperation in the field of agriculture," posted CM Sonowal on Twitter.
Earlier in 2019, Dr Ron Malka had expressed Israel's interest in sharing its expertise and technology in various fields, including agriculture, energy and water management, with Assam.
"I express my sincere gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for taking Indo-Israel relations to new heights, which wouldn't have been possible without his visionary leadership," added CM Sonowal.
The Indo-Israeli agriculture projects involve 16 state partners, and there are 25 fully active centres of excellence spread over 16 states. These centres of excellence are advanced and intensive agriculture farms that are a platform of knowledge transfer of Israeli agro-technology.
During his visit to Assam, Dr Ron Malka also ceremonially laid the foundation stone of Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Protected Cultivation at Khetri, Kamrup (M), Assam.
"It is indeed a special day for the people of Assam, especially for the farmers, as we have laid the foundation stone of the Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Protected Cultivation at Khetri," tweeted CM Sonowal announcing the same.
Speaking to G Plus about the Indo-Israel tie-up, IAS Akash Deep, Commissioner & Secretary, Agriculture department of Assam said that "Israel has a vast expertise in agricultural technology. When these will be shared with Assam, it will surely boost our economy."
