GUWAHATI: Gautam Basumatary, the manager of a tea estate in Assam's Tinsukia district who was abducted in October, has been released. Basumatary, who was taken by force from the estate on October 23, was freed on Thursday, November 7, at the 17th Mile area in Jairampur, Arunachal Pradesh.

An official from Lekhapani Police Station spoke with GPlus, saying, “The abducted man named Gautam Basumatary was freed at 17th Mile in Arunachal Pradesh’s Jairampur.”
The banned militant group ULFA-I is strongly suspected to be behind the incident, as the organisation has been involved in similar activities in the region.
