GUWAHATI: Tapan Kumar Deka has taken over as Special Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) on Thursday, June 24.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet on Wednesday, June 23, approved the promotion of 14 IPS, including the appointment of Deka, based on a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
A 1988 batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer, Tapan Kumar Deka hails from Assam. He was the Additional Director and has been appointed as the Special Director temporarily for a tenure up to his retirement on February 28, from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders.
This was informed by an official notification from the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions.
Deka is a Himachal Cadre IPS officer and spent most of his career in the IB.
