GUWAHATI: Assam schools are gearing up to provide free uniforms to students, as announced by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The initiative aims to ensure that every student receives quality uniforms, addressing disparities observed in the past.

During the assembly session, Assam Chief Minister Sarma announced, "I am pleased to announce that this year, students will be given free uniforms. However, I want to make it clear that if there are any issues in the supply chain leading to a mess in uniform distribution, cases will be registered."

He further emphasised the allocation of funds for free school uniforms but expressed concern about the varying quality in different schools. Chief Minister Sarma noted, "While some schools maintain a good standard in providing uniforms, there are others, like SMDC and Pradhan students, who do not use the uniform funds efficiently. This year, our mission is to ensure that every school delivers good-quality uniforms to the students."

The Chief Minister highlighted the commitment to quality education, pointing out disparities between schools efficiently using uniform funds and those that do not. The focus extends beyond uniforms, with a renewed emphasis on improving standards across all schools, aligning with the existing mid-day meal program.
