GUWAHATI: Assam’s Special Task Force (STF) has recorded an increase in seizure of drugs and narcotics from March 2023 to December 2024, compared to the timeframe between October 2008 and February 2023. This report was released on Monday, January 6.

The most notable surge was in heroin seizures, which jumped from 534.25 gram to 59 kilogram. Similarly, psychotropic tablets, including Yaba, saw an exponential increase from 13,920 units to over 9.67 lakh units.
Additionally, Phensedyl cough syrup recoveries rose from 320 bottles to 37,000 bottles, while ganja (weed) seizures escalated from approximately 48 kilogram to almost 4,000 kilogram. The STF also reported seizing 1 kilogram of methamphetamine during recent operations.
The operations conducted during this time were 152, and they have led to 264 arrests.
