Ramesh Chand Jain took oath as the Chairman, and Rukm Gohain Baruah as the Vice-Chairman, in a ceremony presided over by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu.

The establishment of the ASSEB marks a departure from the previous Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP). Dr. Pegu emphasised the pivotal role of this transition in shaping the future of school education in Assam.

“I am glad to witness the event,” Dr. Pegu shared on X. “I appreciated 60 years of service by SEBA and 40 years of service by AHSEC which will be now history. The ASSEB will now shoulder secondary education, from course design to conduct of examination.”

The Minister outlined the government's ambitious plan to enhance skill-based education. The state aims to expand the number of secondary schools to 6,000, with the tender process for 372 new schools already underway.
