Assam: Silchar To Get Its Second Airport At Dolu Tea Estate

GUWAHATI: The second airport at Silchar will be constructed at the Dolu Tea Estate. However, in doing so the Assam Government will consider the best interest of the tea garden workers and ensure that neither their residences nor their livelihood is hampered due to the construction.

This was stated by Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 21 at Silchar.

CM Sarma further added that the proposal for the airport will be submitted to the Centre in two to three weeks’ time.

The new airport is going to be a civil airport unlike the existing one at Kumbhirgram, about 25 kilometres from Silchar, which belongs to the Indian Air Force.

The proposed airport will be developed on 870 acres of land acquired from the Dolu Tea Estate.

“The interest of the tea garden labourers will be protected, and in no way will they lose anything while the new airport is being,” he said.
