Assam: Senior Govt Officer Caught Red-Handed Taking Bribe

GUWAHATI: A senior officer in Nalbari, Assam, has been caught red-handed while taking a bribe. The woman named Jyotsna Rani Barman is an Inspector of Schools.

She had demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe for passing a bill for the construction of a playground in a government school in Nalbari's Borbhag. As an advance, she wanted Rs 15,000.


One of the people who was approached for the bribe contacted the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) regarding the matter. The ACB laid a trap for the official. 


This was confirmed to G Plus by Swapnaneel Deka, Superintendent of Police, ACB. 


In her office room, she was caught red-handed taking Rs 15,000. The bribe money paid to her had been marked by the vigilance bureau and they were already in her office wearing civil dress. As such, after she took the money, she was caught in possession of the marked cash notes.
